Brenda Craig - at sea - craigslist

Here is a huge craigslist scam-
Brenda Craig to me
show details 2:40 PM (3 hours ago)

Thanks for the prompt response..I am ready to buy it now for my
brother and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and
due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of
website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert
and send you an email regarding it. I really want it to be a surprise
for my brother so i wont let him know anything about it until it gets
delivered to him, i am sure he will be more than happy with it. I
insisted on PayPal because i don't have access to my bank account
online as i don't have internet banking, but i can pay from my PayPal,
as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your
PayPal email address and the price so i can make the payments asap for
it and please if you don't have PayPal account yet, it is very easy to
set up, go to http://www.paypal.com/. and get it set up, after you have set it
up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with
PayPal so as to put the money through.
Many thanks
Bgradx1@googlemail.com

  7. Well a YEAR later this scammer is still out there.. I mean seriously, do they not even try to change up their story/lies any??

Just received the same email yesterday for 2 cars I have listed on Craigslist.. But the incoming email address was different from the REPLY email..

She sent the same question on both my Car ad's which read:

"is it still for sale? happy sunday"

I knew right away I had a scammer since I've been down this road before, plus no mention of the actual Car, I pretty much knew, but decided I would REPLY with a simple "IT SURE IS" & see what kind of response I got back..

    The FROM address showed: snit1200@comcast.net

Then the REPLY address showed: bgradx1@gmail.com (which again only confirmed my suspicion).

Then she USED a TOTALLY different email when she replied back with the "I am ready to buy, yada yada yada message below".

This time it showed FROM: Katy James email address jamekate08@gmail.com.

Thanks for your mail.i will appreciate more pictures..I am ready to buy it now for my son as a surprise promise gift,And due to the nature of my work, phone calls making and visiting of website are restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you an email regarding it.i would be glad to pay for it as soon as possible though i will not be available to come for an inspection due to my tight schedule.Kindly get back to me with the following questions below:

    3) Your PayPal Email ID to effect the payment
    4)what is The final Price
5)is there any other issues with the item not mentioned on Craigslist?
6)kindly remove the post from craigslist

  13. Got this today-

what is the present condition?Reply to my personal email address (bgradx1@gmail.com)

I'm always suspicious of craigslist replies that don't include a phone number and/or ask stupid questions. My current car ad has tons of pics and detailed info yet this person is asking me what condition is it in. I punched in email address in google search and first link was this page. I kinda already knew it was a bogus reply but it was good to see people posting here confirming my suspicions. To be honest I'm surprised I haven't had more of these being my ad has been up for a few weeks and I have bumped it at least 3-4 times. In the past I'd always get at least 3-4 bogus replies when selling something.

I actually had to complain to craigslist to verify my new account in order to even post my car ad. I use a prepaid cell and have for years and the phone verification would not accept it. I sent a comment in to craigslist support and amazingly got a response telling me they would verify my account without a phone. Ironic being this verification process is suppose to help with spam and scams yet the scammers are allowed to continue on and regular honest folks like us have to suffer from rules that really don't stop the spammers and scammers.

I will be reporting this email to craigslist.

I replied to the bgradx1@gmail.com message and told them the email they are using is listed as being used for illegal activities. I marked as scam on craigslist link and also sent email to the fbi report internet crime link. And just hours later I get this reply back from scammer

Are you the Owner?get back to me with your direct email address to contact you not this craigslist email

I'm fairly certain this ends up being a 'I send you a check for 5,000 you send me back half' scam. I sold a sportbike back in 2006, not craigslist but a free auction site of some kind. Had similar vague responses but ended up giving my address to them and then one day boom, a 8,000 check in the mail with no legit return address. Just instructions to cash it, and send half back to secure bike, them when they come to pick it up they would pay balance. Just to delve deeper into the scam I went to my bank and told them someone sent me a check for 8,000 for my bike, and in the email they wanted me to cash it, of course my funds would of had to cover it, then I was suppose to send half through a wire transfer(in this scam it seems they use paypal) to a yet unnamed individual. So the scam was the check is bogus, but you cash it and your checking/savings account backs up that bad check, you send half to scammer and they get real money while you get stuck for the 8,000.
My bank told me this was a common scam many had fallen for and this was 7 years ago. No surprise this is continuing, the criminals never sleep.

My rule of thumb in most cases is if someone replies to an ad especially, a craigslist ad, with no phone number I don't even reply. This email was just so obviously stinky I had to check it out and here this page exists.

    Be safe people!

My husband told me to give her my PayPal email address and see what happens.. The sum she owes is $13,500 with the Transfer fee added. I'm not sure what harm this does? Once the money is in your account can't you just pull it out and they lose? I'm not understanding the scam...If anyone knows let us know. I had googled her email address and found this. Thanks...

  23. I am not sure if this is the same Brenda Craig that I have been a victim of fraud to but my experience is slightly different. I answered a Gumtree add for a Maxi Cosi Familyfix car seat base that she was selling. We built up a rapport and foolishly I transferred £40 into her partners bank account. The goods were never received. I emailed her and she agreed to refund me but this has never happened. Communication has broken down and basically I was given the run around for 2 months. I have taken steps to report her and her so called partner !! Time will only tell but it has left me feeling rather foolish for trusting her. NEVER AGAIN. What a sad world......
